Information

This look-development project outlines a fictional user interface (FUI) animation sequence designed around the iconic Imperial Stormtrooper. The multi-software production pipeline bridges 3D asset creation with complex compositing methods.

The primary Stormtrooper asset was modelled from scratch within Autodesk Maya to establish clean, hard-surface geometry before being imported into Adobe After Effects for final cinematic animation. To populate the digital telemetry, a supporting library of geometric objects was built, animated, and rendered in Maya, forming the modular foundation for the various tactical UI sub-systems operating throughout the sequence.

Spatial UI Mechanics and Planar Motion Tracking

The core design challenge of this animation sequence relies on integrating futuristic head-up displays seamlessly with moving 3D geometry. A bespoke library of flat, 2D user interface graphics was constructed to flesh out the technical breakdown frames.

Rather than functioning as static screen overlays, these custom UI elements are situated directly into a true 3D space as planar graphic assets. By occupying the same 3D environment as the main character rig, the telemetry HUD elements move fluidly alongside the Stormtrooper’s armour panels during camera movements.

A large, high-fidelity master presentation layout featuring a front-facing 3D Stormtrooper hologram centered perfectly within a comprehensive tactical console design, featuring technical text block readouts and glowing circular telemetry radars on a dark grid backdrop.
