Information

A vinyl toy and package design concept based on various archival representations of Slimer over the years, with Andy Schoenberg’s sculpture at Steve Johnson’s XFX studio serving as the primary design influence.

The original Slimer model was digitally sculpted and textured using Maxon ZBrush, with look-development and final production rendering executed in Cinema 4D using the OTOY Octane rendering engine. This project serves as a comprehensive design study integrating character sculpting, custom material creation, and product package design.

Packaging Design & Asset Integration

For a premium collector’s piece, the packaging design was treated as an integral component of the overall project rather than an afterthought. The design process involved careful consideration of physical surfaces, simulated printing techniques, and contrasting materials. The final concept pairs a textured, matte black structural box with high-contrast, reflective silver foil accents to establish a premium, limited-edition retail aesthetic.

Digital sculpting in ZBrush encompassed both the physical form and the surface painting pass of the figure. To complement the intricate skin detailing of the sculpture, the display stand was engineered with a minimal footprint. By utilizing a clean, neutral shape and a transparent material finish, the stand is designed to recede into the background, ensuring the full focus remains on the character sculpt itself.
