Inspired by Westworld by Michael Crichton, this project includes style frame designs for ‘Medieval World’.

Exploring the darker, industrial underbelly of the Westworld universe, this series of style frames reimagines ‘Medieval World’ through a stark, clinical lens. The concept art focuses on the sterile laboratory environment and the cold, high-tech backrooms where synthetic assets are brought for maintenance and repair.

By balancing medieval imagery with a brutalist, laboratory aesthetic, the project contrasts historical fantasy against a unsettlingly cold, automated reality.

All 3D modeling was produced in Cinema 4D and Maya, and rendered with OTOY’s Octane.

Production Pipeline & Technical Execution

Bringing the sterile environments of ‘Medieval World’ to life required a 3D heavy production workflow. The custom assets and hard-surface elements were modelled across Cinema 4D and Maya, establishing the rigid, symmetrical geometry necessary for a clinical feel.

To achieve the stark, photorealistic atmosphere, the scenes were lit and rendered using OTOY’s Octane Render. Final look development, colour grading, and digital compositing were completed in Photoshop to embed a cinematic, editorial finish across the entire style frame sequence.

System Failure: The Final Sequence

The narrative arc concludes with a stark, symmetrical composition. The central focus rests on a synthetic skull housed within a brutalist medieval helm.

The sterile white environment suddenly fractures as the lighting shifts to an ominous emergency crimson, signalling a critical system failure or a breach in the lab’s containment protocols before ultimately fading to black.

Motion Design & Animation Test

Alongside the static frames, this short three-second animation sequence tests the mechanical movement of the internal components.

The shot features a slow camera pan across the synthetic skull as the internal brain mechanics rotate. A subtle light leak enters from the left of the frame, injecting the red hue from the sequences predetermined colour palette.

This three-second animation serves to evaluate the visual mood of the sequence and verify how the mechanical assets perform in motion. It provides a technical benchmark for checking the assets’ material settings, lighting interaction, and overall pacing before moving into full production.
