Information

This look-development project focuses on a complete, from-scratch 3D reconstruction of the signature vehicle and weaponry from Tim Burton’s 1989 film universe. Pre-production began with compiling an extensive visual archive of historical production stills, blue-sky design sketches, and film frames to map out exact geometric proportions.

Built within Cinema 4D and rendered via OTOY Octane, the project serves as an exercise in high-fidelity hard-surface modelling, executing a recreation of all the unique curves and angles of the original practical model.

Industrial Staging and Surface Look-Development

The automotive phase of the project evaluates the vehicle’s silhouette through highly structured, clinical compositions. Staged inside a brutalist concrete garage constructed with Megascans assets, the car is presented through rigid front and profile orthographic angles that emphasize its aggressive, elongated frame.

The look-development features a custom multi-layered paint shader that controls specular roll-off, catching sharp overhead light banks along the panels while maintaining deep shadows. For the final presentation frames, these renders are combined with stark graphic typography overlays and experimental red-and-cyan anaglyph channel offsets.

Batarang Engineering & Film Sequence

The second phase shifts entirely to tactical prop fabrication, focusing on the dark hero batarang. The asset features heavy material contrast, pitting a cast-iron textured center against highly polished, machined steel cutting edges to imply years of operational wear.

To demonstrate the asset dynamically, a short motion sequence was produced using realistic physical camera parameters. This film utilizes tight macro lenses, a shallow depth of field, and true Octane motion blur to track the prop through space, capturing sharp horizontal anamorphic lens flares as the weapon cuts across the light sources.
